The Power of Vulnerability

  • Connection is why we are here – it’s what gives purpose to our lives
  • Shame is simply the fear of disconnection
  • People who have a strong sense of love and belonging believe they are worthy of love and belonging
  • Courage means to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart
  • Whole-hearted people have:
    • The courage to be imperfect
    • The compassion to be kind to themselves first and then others
    • Connection with others as the result of authenticity – willing to let go of who they should be in order to be who they are
    • Fully embraced vulnerability
  • Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, creativity and innovation
  • We numb vulnerability but we cannot selectively numb emotions without numbing other emotions
  • We numb by moving from belief to certainty, trying to perfect ourselves and our children, or by pretending that what we do does not have a huge impact on other people
  • Whole-hearted living is to let ourselves be seen, to love with our whole hearts even though there is no guarantee, to practice gratitude and joy, and to believe that we are enough
